Christina Aguilera's Bionic Deserved Way Better: Why This Album Is Almost Forgotten & Overshadowed

Hello everybody welcome back to my blog and today I want to talk about the album Bionic which came from Christina Aguilera back in 2010.

I wanted to talk about this album because this was one of the most underrated and one of the most unappreciated albums by Aguilera.

To start the topic off, the album had been released back in 2010 and during this time Christina had ventured off into other things. Shortly after the album dropped, Aguilera was starting promotion for her film Burlesque with Cher and both the film and soundtrack were also released in 2010. Bionic released in June 2010 while the film released the following November so Aguilera didn't get to promote the album well enough for it to get better recognition.

In addition, the album actually had lots of great songs and to be honest "Not Myself Tonight" to me was a great lead single. Though compared heavily to others, I thought it was actually a great way for Christina to help promote the album of its back story as the video and album cover seemed identical. I know some didn't like "Not Myself Tonight" as a lead single however it was a great way to get her name into the public quickly and a good marketing strategy.

Aguilera also released "I Hate Boys," "You Lost Me" and "Woohoo" with Nicki Minaj as the other singles. Between the three only "You Lost Me" had a video which I think was poor on her teams part. The video for "You Lost Me" was great but I feel like if she would've done a video for "Woohoo" in particular she fame would have rose even more (especially with Nicki Minaj being a new rising star at the time). However, "Not Myself Tonight" and "You Lost Me" both had great videos and are great songs. I would have personally preferred "Vanity" and/or "Glam" to have had visuals for the album too as those were just two particular songs I took a liking to.

As the singles had their ups and downs, for "Not Myself Tonight" Aguilera was heavily compared to Lady Gaga, Madonna and even Gwen Stefani which that kind of drove me nuts. I mean literally the media took four blonde haired women and just straight up compared them to each other. I will say that i can agree with little comparisions but I feel like through most of Aguilera's career she has been compared to Gwen and Madonna early and now Gaga in her later career.

During the time of this album, the comparisons to Lady Gaga were a big talk as both artists had a very similar sound. However, even though Gaga rose on the scene in 2008, Aguilera had admitted that she had started work on this album shortly after the release of Back To Basics in 2006. Basically, the timing for the album was just a bit bad overall not just with the Gaga situation but also with Burlesque which basically would have fit better with Back To Basics.

As 2020 was the ten year anniversary of the album Aguilera did once again praise the album and gave it new light. Many of the songs on the album were actually of big support of the LGBTQ community which has been really cool.

I think if the album would have been released in 2011 instead of 2010, it may have done a bit better because Aguilera could've promoted it better (and even went on tour for it) but all well.

Anyway let me know below what your favorite song from Bionic is and do you think she should make a follow-up to it?
